Vitamin E beats drug treatment for NASH
In a presentation at the 60th Annual Meeting of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases held October 30 to November 3, 2009 in Boston, Arun Sanyal, MD of the Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Internal Medicine reported the results of a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial which found that vitamin E was more successful than the antidiabetic drug pioglitazone at treating nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis is a progressive liver disease associated with fatty liver, insulin resistance and obesity. An estimated 3 to 4 percent of Americans have NASH, which progresses to cirrhosis in 15 to 20 percent of the cases, due to inflammation. The disease currently has no established treatment. Effect of aging on nitric oxide synthase signaling
This proven impairment in NOS (Nitric Oxide Synthases) production is related to aging and is also proven to occur with low level lead accumulation and responds to Chelation. This is why I teach in all my lectures now for years that oral or IV Chelation does not need to reverse plaque since it is documented to improve blood flow. It is because we all have low level lead accumulation so this so called "aging change" is not just aging but is directly related to the low level lead toxicity we all suffer today. Unless you stay on oral chelation without fail for at least 15 years your bones will always have highly concentrated stores of lead to interfere with Nitric Oxide synthases so you are not converting Arginine to NO efficiently unless you routinely chelate to lower available lead levels in your body. Fish Farming Makes Diseases More Virulent
(NaturalNews) A 23-year Finnish study has concluded that decades of fish farming have led to the prevalence of increasingly lethal strains of disease that thrive in an enclosed environment. Dr. Katja Pulkkinen from the University of Jyvaskyla stressed in his report that high density conditions where fish are under a lot of tension create a favorable environment for the outbreak of vicious pathogenic strains.
Columnaris disease, one such infection that destroys the skin, fins, and gills of fish, has become one of the leading causes of death among farmed fish in the U.S. The disease, caused by the bacterium Flavobacterium columnare, would normally be unable to survive out in the wild. However due to "selective pressures," farmed fish are highly susceptible to it and other virulent strains that end up costing the fish farming industry millions of dollars a year in losses. Chemicals in Marijuana Smoke May Harm DNA
(HealthDay News) -- The smoke from cannabis, the plant from which marijuana is derived, contains compounds that can damage DNA and increase the risk of cancer just like tobacco smoke, says a new study from the United Kingdom.
In laboratory tests, Rajinder Singh from the University of Leicester and colleagues found certain carcinogens in cannabis smoke in amounts 50 percent greater than those found in tobacco smoke. They noted that light cannabis use could possibly prove to be even more damaging because cannabis smokers usually inhale more deeply than cigarette smokers. Read more...

Our Acidic Environment
"Environmental pollution is one of the most serious problems facing humanity today," states Alan McGowan, president of the Scientists' Institute for Public Information. Similarly, in an article entitled Global Change, scientist George M. Woodwell reported that scientists around the world believe that human activities are threatening the biosphere, the thin layer on the surface of the earth where life occurs. The biosphere maintains an incredible richness and variety of life, including human life, yet in the final part of our century humans are destroying the natural systems upon which life depends.
